Wrongful Death Suit May Result from Mine Accident
Published on 08/13/2010
Barrick Gold Corporation owns the Meikle mine in Northern Nevada where the accident took place. Three deaths over the last 11 years were caused by the same mine.
Company officials maintain that a recovery effort is still underway for the missing miners. This recovery effort is being coordinated by the US Mine Safety and Health Administration.
The accident occurred when two miners were being lowered into a ventilation shaft when a surge of pressure on the hoist caused a mine evacuation. The two workers have been missing ever since.
The Barrick Gold Company is the largest gold company in the world and owns many mines in Nevada, which is the fourth largest producer of gold in the world.
The most recent of the three deaths that have previously occurred at the Meikle mine happened in 2004, when a truck driver became pinned between his truck and a cement pillar.
